Simon Sinek (at his Re:Focus blog) on writing the perfect want ad. This is about more than want ads though, take a moment to reflect, and its about writing resumes, advertising yourself, and so much more. This is an example of what people mean when they give the advice, "know yourself." 

Corporate Recycling

Many companies are starting to take back their products to recycle them. There are varying degrees of recycling going on. Nike's Reuse A Shoe program doesn't make the kicks you drop off into new shoes, they turn them into rubber playing fields. The end goal is to try and perfect a system of take back for the day when they can up-cycle the shoe you bring back.

Patagonia has been taking back clothes for a while now, with a little drop box in stores. They have various documentation on their website about the various processes they go through to recycle clothes.

Fast Retailing, has a take back program going on in Japan with UNIQLO.

Sharing

This is another rising trend that I hope goes beyond being just a trend. It's happening on multiple levels in different fields. 

Sharing between individuals.

Sharing in Communities.

Sharing between Companies, particularly with green products and processes in mind. I can imagine the difficulty in creating such alliances, more of them are needed to though. Companies need to lay down their defenses, so that everyone can push forward with these alliances.

Sharing between Countries.

Santa Monica by Bike

I went to a Green Business Networking Event that provides the owners and decision-makers of socially- and environmentally-conscious businesses a time and place for connecting, sharing, deal-making and networking. It was at the Ambrose Hotel in Santa Monica. Which is aesthetically pleasing, though the bike racks leave something to be desired.  The staff did let me store my bike the Study Room though, that was extraordinarily kind of them.

The Green Business Networking Event takes place on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. It was  a good event to attend, I got a number of business cards that will be good for both school and personal related issues. From Solar Panel providers to Organic Landscaping Consultants, and even a LEED Accredited Financial Consultant.  More on the individual people and the companies in the future as I follow up and see which worth noting.

And in the spirit of being Green, I biked there from Eagle Rock.  It only took an hour and half, including the stopover at 710 Heliotrope drive for Scoops Ice Cream Shop. It's on the way, what's a 50 yard detour in an 18 mile trip? The travel time still beats out taking public transportation which would have taken 1 hour and 52 minutes. And public transportation beats out a car which would've cost the equivalent of $13.50.  It all depends on your frame of reference, and priorities of what is important, time, money, individual health.

The return trip was a slightly different route (Santa Monica Blvd all the way to Sunset Blvd, then down to Silver Lake), and it took less than an hour. I felt safe the entire time considering it started at 9pm at night.

You Don't Look Like an MBA Student...

is what I keep hearing from the INSEAD students. I attribute it to my hair, which is fantastic by me. Don't get me wrong, these people are amazingly kind, open and approachable. I would hate for them to have to go to Art Center and deal with the constant sea of eyes to the ground. I'm sure with their positive attitude they could easily turn the situation around though.

Our first real day, with a class (Venture Opportunities in Business Management) was great. The class and teacher are wonderful, and the structure of the presentation of information was concise, understandable and to the point. I have a good idea of what I'm going to learn, and even how it applies to me as a designer. This is going to be an invaluable experience that I can't endorse enough, and its only just begun!!!
